The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has announced the participation of top government and industry stakeholders in its upcoming breakfast meeting on the Nigeria–China currency swap agreement.
Confirmed attendees include the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso; representatives from the Federal Ministry of Finance; and Chairman of the Customs Consultative Council, Aare Hakeem Olanrewaju.
The forum, titled “Navigating the Nigeria–Peoples Republic of China Currency Swap: Opportunities and Challenges for Import, Export and Maritime Business,” is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.
MARAN President, Godfrey Bivbere, confirmed the CBN Governor’s commitment to ensuring full representation at the event, with the Ministry of Finance and Aare Olanrewaju also confirming their attendance.
Other expected participants include officials from the Chinese Embassy, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), and members of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership (NCSP). Importers, exporters, maritime operators, economists, policymakers, and financial institutions are also anticipated.
According to Bivbere, the event supports MARAN’s mission to examine and shape policies affecting the maritime sector. The Nigeria–China currency swap is aimed at facilitating bilateral trade by easing access to Naira and Yuan, reducing reliance on the U.S. dollar in international transactions.

The forum will offer a platform for stakeholders to assess the implications of the currency swap on Nigeria’s trade and maritime sectors, especially in light of currency fluctuations and global economic shifts.
“This agreement with China marks a vital move toward economic stability and reduced dollar dependency. Our forum will equip stakeholders with the insights needed to navigate the opportunities and challenges it presents,” Bivbere said.
