Customs CG convenes high-powered meeting over illegal transborder trade ahead of yuletide

Obviously worried by the high volume of contrabands and illicit goods endlessly intercepted by men of Nigeria Customs Service around the country’s land borders, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has convened a meeting of Area Controllers and high-level officers manning the border commands.

The Nigerian Economy gathered that the meeting was part of the Customs management’s strategic moves to hit hard on smugglers and importers of unwholesome goods during the coming yuletide season.

The meeting was a bold move to reinforce the Customs uncompromising determination towards combating smuggling of contrabands and controlled goods.

A competent Customs said the meeting which was held on Thursday specifically focused on innovative approaches and actionable strategies to revigorate the fight against smuggling, while also assessing the border commands’ operational challenges and weakness for purpose of strengthening them for the anti-smuggling operations ahead of the yuletide.

Highlighting the Service’s determination, the Customs Comptroller-General emphasized collaboration, intelligence-driven enforcement, and community engagement as key pillars to secure Nigeria’s borders and protect the nation’s economy.

“The meeting reaffirms the NCS’s relentless pursuit of its mandate and its resolve to outsmart smugglers at every turn,” the source enthused, while hinting the public about the doom which awaits unrepentant  smugglers in the coming yuletide.
