Customs, FRSC synergise on data sharing to improve revenue, curb vehicle smuggling

The Ag. Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday, 3rd October 2023, for automated data sharing of vehicle registration.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have found common grounds for automobile data sharing as a means to curb smuggling of all kinds of vehicles and improve Customs revenue generation from automobile importations.

Ag. Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr Adewale Adeniyi and his FRSC counterpart, Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on data sharing at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

In his remarks, the Customs boss, Adeniyi, said the MOU would foster unity between the two agencies, check vehicle smuggling and revenue leakages.

Adeniyi also noted that the collaboration between the two federal agencies would ensure resource optimization, road safety, increased revenue generation, and improvement in other essential aspects of vehicle documentation.

Biu and Adeniyi (m), shortly after signing the MOU on vehicle data sharing at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

“The MoU would lead to seamless collaboration, operational efficiency, enhanced compliance, and innovative problem-solving,” he said.

In his response, the FRSC boss, Biu commended Adeniyi for his dedication towards the signing of the MoU. He assured the Customs boss of his commitment to partnering with the Service to combat smuggling, revenue leakages, theft, and other social crimes.

“Data sharing is very important for seamless synergy between relevant agencies of government and in the case of our collaboration, positive outcomes are expected,” Biu noted.
