…laud Comptroller Olomu’s strides in Apapa port
Freight forwarders have expressed astonishment following the disclosure of N1.38 trillion six-month revenue generation by the Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Port Command.
Customs Area Controller (CAC) for Apapa Port, Babatunde Olomu on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) headquarters in Lagos, where he disclosed that the command pulled about N1.38 trillion from duties, tariffs and other fees from exports and imports routed and received through Apapa Port between January and June, 2025.
Speaking at the meeting, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu attributed the impressive revenue figure to strategic partnerships with shipping industry stakeholders and improved compliance to trade regulations by the freight forwarders and licenced customs agents.
Olomu commended the association for its unwavering support towards the trade reforms agenda of the federal government which implementation is dutifully championed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.
“We will keep seeking your support to perform better and this is always in the area of compliance. Your collaboration is essential for seamless trade because of the crucial role you play in the port and the trade system,” Olomu said.

“Let us continue this mutual relationship in which when you comply, your job is done smoothly without any hitch and we collect the appropriate revenue for the government. Your support is now even more critical as we commit to the ongoing Customs modernization drive through the B’Odogwu platform.”
In his remarks, the founder of NAGAFF, Boniface Aniebonam, praised Olomu’s leadership and achievements, noting a significant reduction in cases of harassment and inspection-related disputes at the port.
“Your era is a new and promising one for freight forwarding at Apapa Port and these feats you have are clearly coming from improved professionalism and smoother operations under your leadership,” Aniebonam said.
Earlier, the NAGAFF President, Tochukwu Ezisi, welcomed Comprroller Olomu, describing his visit as “a demonstration of renewed commitment to trust, collaboration and progress.”
He said: “We have seen the changes you brought to Customs processes in Apapa Port and the good success you have recorded. We are with you and I want to use this avenue to call on all freight forwarders to adopt transparency and accurate documentation in total compliance to all Customs rules. The success of the destination inspection regime depends heavily on honest cargo declarations.”
