Nigeria’s flagship international airports, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos have received full aerodrome recertification after four years of inactive status.
According to an agency statement on Friday, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku received the Aerodrome Recertification of the airports from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) at the authority’s headquarters in Abuja yesterday.
The certificates presented by the Director General, NCAA, Captain Chris Najomo, marked an important milestone in the aviation sector under the leadership of the Minister of Aviation, Mr Festus Keyamo.
The NCAA DG thanked Kuku for her visionary leadership and remarkable achievement in closing up the safety gaps while praising her for providing the quality workforce to achieve this in less than one year of her stewardship.
The DG noted that the achievement is remarkable and hopes that the closing up of gaps and certification of the other airports will be more seamless
It would be recalled that the two International Airports Aerodrome Certificates expired in 2020, and because of the COVID-19 pandemic, an extension was granted  FAAN management, which has successfully ended today with the recertification.
The FAAN boss, in her speech, acknowledged the effort of her untiring workforce, airport managers and the NCAA team for their resilience and good collaboration.
Kuku said this achievement will move her ahead with the certification of the other international airports early next year.
