Veteran maritime journalist, Richard Adeniyi for burial tomorrow

The remains of Pa Richard Adeniyi, a veteran maritime journalist, will be laid to rest tomorrow, Saturday June 8, 2024 in his country home in Ondo, Ondo State capital.

A former employee of the Daily Times, Pa Adeniyi died in April 2024 at the age of 86.

Until his demise, Adeniyi was a member of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), the umbrella body of journalists reporting the maritime sector of the economy.

As an active member of MARAN, he contributed significantly to the development of the nation’s maritime industry through reporting, and was known for his commitment to peace and harmony in the association.

Apart from the Daily Times newspaper, Pa Richard worked with other media organizations where he left indelible mark as a news reporter.

He was a member of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and actively participated in the Lagos State Council programmes and activities.

In a statement announcing his obituary, the NUJ Lagos State Council paid glowing tributes to Pa Adeniyi, describing him as a regular face at the monthly congress of the Council where he was well respected for his vast knowledge on issues.

The burial programme will start today, Friday June 7, with a service of songs and Christian wake keep, while interment will be tomorrow, Saturday, June 8, followed by reception at Ariya Event Centre, Olufisayo Street, Sabo Road, Ondo.
