Top northern politician and immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el Rufai, who was highly expected to be in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, has voluntarily opted out.
The ex-Kaduna governor communicated his intentions to “step aside” to the president at a meeting on Tuesday, according to reports.
El Rufai was reported to have promised to contribute to the administration of President Tinubu as a private citizen.
The Senate had shown disapproval of el Rufai’s nomination, having failed to confirm him, a development the politician blamed on “Tinubu’s men.”
It was gathered that el Rufai was having some issues with top Tinubu’s men making him to give up his ambition of becoming a minster in the Tinubu administration and nominated an ex-commissioner under his administration as Governor of Kaduna State, Jafaru Ibrahim Sani in his place.
The former governor had told the President that he “needed time to focus on his Doctorate degree programme at a university in the Netherlands,” a source disclosed.
The President will any moment from now forward Sani’s CV and other vital information about him to the Department of State Service (DSS) and the Senate for screening and confirmation.
