JUST IN: Apapa port Customs half-year revenue collections rise by 143%, hit N1.02trn

The Apapa Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated N1.023 trillion between January and June 2024.

The figure represents a whopping 143% over N421.38 billion generated within the same period of 2023.

Briefing newsmen at the Command’s headquarters in Apapa today, in company of Apapa divisional heads of sister security agencies, Customs Area Controller (CAC) Apapa Port Area Command, Babatunde Olomu said:
the agency’s efforts at promoting and facilitating trade were yielding good results.

He said: “These efforts are mainly targeted at prevention of revenue losses, improving ease of doing business and stakeholders engagements.As a results of these efforts, we are glad to announce that in the command’s half-year report, covering January to June 2024, we generated N1,023,663,822, representing 143% over N421, 382,188,386 recorded in same period of 2023.

“This feat is being recorded despite sharp reduction in volume of trade. We have put measure in place to block loss of government revenue and we are applying a blend of intelligence and community relations.”

Olomu also disclosed that during the period, 11 containers of regulated items such as expired drugs, contranband goods and frozen birds worth N424 million were seized from dishonest importers who attempted to smuggle the goods into Nigeria.

He applauded the motivation and pirposeful leadership of the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, while also thanking his men and officers for their hard work and commitment.

The CAC also attributed the command successes to the support from sister agencies in the port, namely the NAFDAC, NDLEA, DSS, SON and the Police.
