Maritime workers hail blue economy minister, Oyetola at 70

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under the leadership of Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, has celebrated the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, as he clocks 70 years of age.

In a statement mailed to The Nigerian Economy on Saturday, MWUN said it was proud to be with the former governor of Osun State, as he marked his birthday with his family, friends and well-wishers across the country.

“The Union will continue to identify with the Iragbiji born administrator; given his immense contributions towards the development and advancement of the maritime sector since he assumed the newly created Marine and Blue Economy ministry,” President General of MWUN, Dr Adewale Adeyanju said.

Adeyanju described Oyetola as a silent achiever, whose vast knowledge in the sector could not be under scored, “having facilitated a lot of fruitful innovations that have progressively touched on the lives of both the employers and employees in the maritime industry and for the country at large.”

Adeyanju who doubles as the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and Vice President Global, International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) also said of Oyetola as one minister, who the members of the MWUN would continue to remember.

“All the branches of MWUN, includjng the dockworkers branch, seafarers branch, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) branch, and the shipping branch felicitate with the minister and not forgetting his commitment towards the Union when he flew in from Abuja to Lagos to witness the signing of the Shipping Branch NJIC for workers in the shipping sector, that has truly revealed his pragmatic attitude towards work and due diligence as a minister.

“Therefore, Oyetola’s ‘workers friendly’ attitude was demonstrated again in the sector, which has brought so much joy, peace and tranquility for both workers, employers and other stakeholders in the industry. In all, his achievements so far in the sector cannot be overemphasized.

“Prince Adeyanju and his entire executives wish the pioneer Minister a pleasant ‘ Happy Birthday ‘, while praying that the Almighty God will continue to grant him good health enmeshed in longevity as he prospers in life,” MWUN stated.
