NCAA organises consumer awareness event to sensitize air travellers in Abuja

by Samson Echenim

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is organizing consumer awareness programme aimed at sensitizing air travelers on their rights, duties and responsibilities necessary to enhance pleasant traveling experience.

The Nigerian Economy gathered that the sensitization program will focus on fostering increased adoption of the robust AI-driven digital innovation consumer right protection and dispute management portal recently launched by the Authority.

The event, which is being facilitated by two consultancy outfit will be taking place at two different locations, simultaneously, in the Federal Capital Territory to enhance wider coverage of target audience tomorrow Friday,  November 22 from 9:00 AM.

Pliance Global Aviation Limited will be facilitating the National Civil Aviation Stakeholder Awareness Summit event at the Federal Secretariate, Shehu Shagari Way, Central Business District, Abuja, while Brisk Systems Limited, a digital technology firm, will be facilitating the Consumer Protection Digital Innovation Stakeholder Awareness Program at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The program will involve roadshow, AI DEMO, Key Informant Interview, Random customer interviews and engagement and a town hall engagement with stakeholders.

This program has become necessary to close the gap of knowledge between air travelers, airlines and aviation agencies, which in the past had led to animosities and poor consumer experience among many that travel both on domestic and international destinations.

The Consumer Protection Directorate of NCAA has carried out studies and discovered that many passengers do not know their rights and obligations and also that flight delays could be caused by natural phenomena and therefore neither the airline or the airport management could be blamed.

So, it is in pursuance to the renewed commitment of the executive management of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority under the leadership of Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, (JP), towards birthing a civil aviation and air transportation industry, that will contribute maximally to economic growth and development in the country that the regulatory authority has decided to close this gap through the forthcoming summit.
One of the objectives of the summit is to regain travelers confidence through the enforcement of consumers right, build a more informed customers and air travel community base, entrench service excellence culture across the civil aviation value chain in the country. There has been great need, more than ever, to adopt a more robust and inclusive regulatory approach and strategic intervention mechanism in the discharge of the Authority’s mandate.

Consequently, the NCAA, through a consortium of consultants have set up series of well-structured, logically aligned and strategically situated programme of events to drive the re-birthing, re-branding and re-engineering initiatives.

Fundamentally, the series of stakeholder engagement and public awareness programme is aimed at setting the roadmap for achieving a more efficient civil aviation and air transportation system in the country, through an inclusive dialogue by critical stakeholder and major actors in the Nigerian civil aviation air transportation value chain.
