New Tincan port Customs boss promises to break command’s trade, revenue records

The ne Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Tincan Island Port Command, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Frank Onyeka, has shared his strategy to meet and exceed the revenue target assigned to his command.

Comptroller Onyeka stated that his approach will prioritize trade facilitation, with a focus on supporting legitimate trade and businesses. He also expressed deep appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for entrusting him with this responsibility, vowing to justify the CGC’s confidence in his leadership.

The CAC made these remarks during a courtesy visit by the executive members of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) to his office. He emphasized that his officers are fully aligned with his mission to uphold the trust placed in him by the management of the service.

“I will facilitate trade, but only legitimate trade. This is my primary focus,” he explained. “Coming from a revenue perspective, it is my hope and prayer to meet and surpass our target.”

He further stressed the importance of proper inspection processes. “One of my key objectives is to ensure that every shipment undergoes the necessary examination. Once containers are inspected, it becomes clear whether they are fit for clearance or not. I’ve engaged the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU), Valuation Unit, and other relevant teams to ensure we are all working in sync. By God’s grace, this unified effort will align with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Comptroller Onyeka also reiterated his gratitude to CGC Adeniyi, stating, “I am immensely grateful to the CGC and his management team. I want him to know that appointing me to this position was not a mistake. I will work tirelessly to make him proud.”

Additionally, the CAC promised to build upon the accomplishments of his predecessor, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Dera Nnadi, who excelled in various areas, including anti-smuggling efforts, revenue generation, infrastructure development, and public relations.

“He laid a strong foundation in multiple aspects. His relationship with the media, in particular, was outstanding due to his background in public relations. I plan to build on that foundation and achieve even greater success,” Onyeka added.

Earlier, the President of MARAN, Mr. Godfrey Bivbere, expressed the association’s willingness to collaborate with Comptroller Onyeka and his command to achieve their objectives. He assured the CAC of the same unwavering support that was extended to his predecessor.
